North East MedTech company PolyPhotonix has announced that its diabetes sleep mask has been adopted by the Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust for the first time. The sleep mask helps prevent blindness in diabetic retinopathy sufferers and has demonstrated improvements and stabilisation of the condition in 96% of patients, making it a cost-effective alternative to later-stage invasive treatments. The early-stage intervention could save the NHS up to £3,000 per patient, while adoption across the NHS could lead to savings of around £180m per year, reducing pressure on healthcare services and freeing up hospital appointments.
